This is a community wide project, supported by folks from across Yarmouth County who are committed to bringing refugees to live in this area. Group members have years of experience in health care, housing, English language teaching, interpretation, education, finances and spiritual care.
Our Group was founded in 2009 and has sponsored two Syrian families (who have now left the area) and one Iraqi family. Another Syrian family will arrive in fall 2018 under a blended program with the Federal Government and a group of private donors called the BVOR Fund.*
Here’s how you can help:
Your financial gifts are still needed.
You can donate online by clicking the donate button at the top of the page, select "Donations" and specify "Refugees" on page 2.
To donate by mail, send a cheque payable to Beacon United Church, memo "Refugees", to 25, Beacon Street, Yarmouth, B5A 2W2.
Receipts for tax purposes will be issued.
Your gently-used household items can get a new life.
Please call Anne Moses at 902-742-2941.
Your time can help newcomers with English, driving or child-care.
To volunteer, please send an email to the coordinator.
Thanks to the generous support of individuals, service clubs, businesses and churches, we have begun the process of bringing another Syrian family through the private sponsorship program. These cases often take several years before they can travel to Canada.
To keep up to date with our progress, to request more information or volunteer, please send a message to The Coordinator.
